Megadeth live at Oosterpoort, Groningen!
Ik ging met een paar vrienden, Roberto, Nana, Andre (en Patrick waar we mee hadden afgesproken in Groningen) naar het concert van Megadeth. We hadden afgesproken bij het gemeentehuis in Katwijk. Om 14.00 uur stopte daar een gele auto die ons naar Megadeth bracht. Ik moest op zich best lachen toen ik de auto zag, vond hem namelijk best komisch. Daarom noemde wij het ook de bananenmobiel. De rit duurde zo’n 2,5 uur (jaa dat is best lang!). De rit was gelukkig wel gezellig. Lekker naar casettebandjes (ja dat las je goed) luisteren en ondertussen lekker slap ouwehoeren met elkaar.
Na de lange rit, met een korte tussenstop natuurlijk, zijn we toch eindelijk in Groningen aangekomen.
Na voor een dichte garagedeur te hebben gestaan en een garage in te zijn gereden die om 23.00 uur al dicht ging hebben we toch maar een ander plekje gezocht. Daarna nog wat vette zooi naar binnen gewerkt bij de Mac. Overal waar je in de Mac keek waren wel metalheads, best komisch. – Het eten was op en we gingen lopen naar de Oosterpoort.
Rond een uurtje of zes kwamen wij bij de Oosterpoort aan – de deuren gingen pas om 19.00 uur open.
Dus wat ga je dan doen? Ja dan ga je je dood vervelen en maar over random mensen praten. Na een beetje gezeten te hebben gingen er toch al aardig wat mensen in de rij voor de deur staan dus we hebben onszelf maar aangesloten in de rij. En toen gingen om 19.00 uur eindelijk de deuren open! Ik rende als gek naar de merchandise toe om een tourshirt te kopen. Daarna rende ik als een gek de zaal in voor goede plekken bij het podium. Met alle geluk hadden Roberto en ik nog een plek tegen het hek aan weten te spotten. Er stonden gezellige mensen om ons heen dus we hadden goed gezelschap om lekker mee te praten.
Om 20.00 uur begon het voorprogramma. Het was de band Black-Bone, ik had er zelf nog nooit van gehoord maar al gauw merkte ik dat de band onwijs goed was. Ik vond het echt gaaf, de muziek ging een beetje de hardrock kant op en ik vond het enigszins nog weg hebben van Motorhead. De band speelde als een half uurtje á drie kwartier (ja als je het naar je zin heb dan let je niet op de tijd) en de crew begon gelijk met het opbouwen van het podium van Megadeth.
En toen begon het EINDELIJK.
Shawn Drover, de drummer, zette ineens de intro van het nummer Trust in. David Ellefson, basgitaar, kwam ineens het podium oplopen om zijn basintro te doen en al gauw kwam gitarist Chris Broderick ook op. De zanger (en gitarist) Dave Mustaine kwam al headbangend het podium oprocken. Wat me ook gelijk opviel was dat hij, ondanks zijn leeftijd, zijn stem weer terug had. Vorig jaar op Graspop was dat namelijk niet het geval.
De band had een top setlist in elkaar gezet, ze speelden twee nummers van het nieuwe album. De nummers klonken live onwijs vet! Toen Mr. Mustaine het nummer Super Collider aankondigde begon hij over het nieuwe album, het grappige was dat een aantal fans het nieuwe album dus blijkbaar gekocht hadden bij de merchandise. Mustaine wist dat niet en riep: “How the f*ck did you guys get it?!” Hij vond het verder niet erg maar het was best grappig dat de band er zelf niets van af wist.
Tijdens het nummer Peace Sells…But Who’s Buying kwam bandmascotte Vic Rattlehead nog even het podium oplopen! Het laatste nummer was Holy Wars… The Punishment Due. Na het laatste nummer gooide de band plectrums het publiek in. Roberto ving er twee en ik heb er eentje gekregen van Nana.
Daarna zijn we dus snel naar de merchandise gegaan om ook het nieuwe album te bemachtigen.
En dat lukte! Leuk, want die komt officieel pas 4 juni uit.
De terugreis was ook erg gezellig, lekker napraten over het concert (met de stem die je nog over had dan).
Op een gegeven moment was de tank bijna leeg, en iemand in de auto schoot in de stress (ik noem geen namen haha). Dus met alle hoop waren we in de rondte aan het kijken voor het eerstvolgende tankstation.
Lekker doorrijden en na een kwartier kwamen we toch eindelijk een tankstation tegen! De tank weer volgegooid en toen doorgereden.
Iedereen in de auto had wel honger dus wat eten kon er wel in! Ik zag onderweg wat rare mensen voorbij rijden, waaronder een partybus vol met mensen verkleed als arabieren. Vond het al raar… twee tellen later weer een auto vol.
Eenmaal aangekomen bij een random Burger King dachten we eindelijk te eten. Nou nee, we liepen het restaurant binnen en het stond bomvol met de verkleedde mafketels die we onderweg ook al zagen.
Best grappig om als metalhead ineens tussen allemaal (blijkbaar) Toppers fans staan. Daarna maar weer terug naar de auto gegaan en na ongeveer een uurtje was ik toch eindelijk thuis!
Kortgezegd Megadeth was F*king vet. (Het nieuwe album is ook gaaf voor de Megadeth fans onder ons!)
