Het publiek op het Kamakura Kickboksgala afgelopen zaterdag in zalencentrum Tripodia werd getrakteerd op een bijzondere avond. De sfeer was weer goed en de partijen waren van hoog niveau. Organisator Kamakura Katwijk deed zelf mee met drie vechters met wisselende uitslagen, maar was vooral weer tevreden met een sportief en sfeervol verloop van de avond.
Kickboksvereniging Katwijk had in eerste instantie vier vechters voor zijn gala, maar helaas voor de gedreven jongeling John Rapmund was het gewichtsverschil met zijn beoogde tegenstander te groot waardoor deze partij werd afgelast. Het moet echter wel gezegd worden dat hij er hard en enthousiast voor getraind had.
Sinds een aantal jaar geeft Kamakura ook kickboksles aan de jeugd tussen 12 en 16 jaar. En afgelopen zaterdag mochten twee van hen hun opwachting maken op het gala. Jeugdvechters Wim van Rijn en Sven van Duijn betraden als eersten de ring in de grote zaal van Tripodia en troffen elkaar.
Het was een partij die gelijk op leek te gaan. Daar waar Sven vooral boksend overheerste was het Wim die met trappen en knietjes behoorlijk van zich af wist de bijten. Beiden waren gebrand op een overwinning. Tot en met de laatste ronde kon de wedstrijd beide kanten opgaan, maar het was uiteindelijk Sven die volgens de jury net even wat sterker door wist te halen. De partijen bij de jeugd werden zoals gebruikelijk gevochten met hoofd- en scheenberming.
Ook Pepijn de Jong mocht zich weer in de ring begeven. Hij vocht een partij in de C-klasse. Pepijn kon zich aanvankelijk goed meten met zijn tegenstander. Beide vochten een goede wedstrijd, maar het was vooral zijn tegenstander die het hem in de laatste ronden moeilijk wist te maken met zijn combinaties van stoten en trappen. De Jong kon zich hiertegen slecht verdedigen wat uiteindelijk resulteerde in een winst op punten voor zijn opponent.
Organisator Wim van Rijn van Kamakura Katwijk kijkt desondanks terug op een zeer geslaagde avond. “De sfeer was goed en het publiek en de aanwezige sportscholen waren weer zeer enthousiast. Het viel ons echter wel op dat er wat minder Katwijks publiek was. Dat is jammer, want we hebben vanavond heel veel leuke partijen gezien. Ook de B-partijen waren van hoog niveau. Ik wil bij deze dan ook iedereen bedanken voor het helpen slagen van deze avond.”
